Our BIG SCAN!!!!

Yesterday I was officially 20 weeks and 1 day along in this beautiful journey called pregnancy!!! The day we have waited so very not-so-patiently for had arrived!! Nick left for work at 5am and I woke up so excited for what the day had in store that I couldn't get back to sleep before work!! Work went sooooo slowly but made so exciting by all the baby talk us girls in the Deli had! Our appointment was at 3pm and we were so eager we got there at 2:45 and then had to wait until 3:30pm until my name got called!! I practically ran to the ultrasound room and leapt onto the bed with my pants down, shirt up ready for the cold gel and ready to see our Baby T.

The Ultrasound lady was THE LOVELIEST lady!!! We made sure to let her know we wanted to know the sex of our Baby! She joined in our excitement and explained everything she was checking and measuring.

First she checked the brain- Perfect! Everything was where it should be! She measured the size of the head then she scanned down so we were looking up Baby T's little pouty nose- no cleft lip and everything in its right position! Then she checked the spine, bladder and the kidneys- Perfect! All blood flow was going to the right place! Then onto the arms and hands, legs and feet- 10 perfect little fingers and 10 perfect little toes! At this point Baby T yawned a massive yawn!

She measured the bones in the arms and legs and then moved down to the Baby's bottom so we could hopefully get a peek at whether we had a girl or a boy! Baby T had been bouncing around and kicking me the whole ultrasound so luckily the legs were in the right spot... We saw 3 little lines and no bulge! We have a baby GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so confident it was a girl before we found out so it was just a confirmation for me! I cried tears of happiness!! We are having a little girl! A little bundle of pink!!!

After the 'potty shot' the ultrasound lady moved onto check her umbilical cord... All perfect with blood flowing perfectly! Then the mission of finding a good view of her heart began.... She did not want to cooperate. At one stage she was face down, then flipped over with her thumb at her mouth, then with the biggest amount of effort she bounced off my uterus like a trampoline and had her feet up at her face with her hands!! I had to stand up and dance around to get her to move around in there... 5 minutes later and we had a good view!! 4 chambers with blood flowing perfectly, no holes and a separate stomach! Our Baby Girl is perfect! A healthy baby girl! The ultrasound lady asked what we were calling her... We told her the name and she was the first person besides us to refer to our Baby girl as her name!!! It is perfect!!! The name is perfect!! A surprise for you all to wait for!!!

At the end the ultrasound lady switched on the 3D scan so we could see her little face.... Oh my precious!!!!!!!!!!! She had her little hand up over her eye and we could see her button 'pig' nose just like mine!!! I can't stop looking at that photo of her! Our baby girl has my nose!! We even had a friend comment on the photo that she has my nose!!!!

The ultrasound lady showed us our baby Girl's measurements... All were perfectly average except her head which is on the larger side (she has me as a Mum so a big head is expected)....which hopefully slows down since the head is the first part to come out of me... OH DEAR!!!!!! She weighs 361g and her head is 18cm around with 16cm around her little belly!!

After the most amazing 30 minutes we were done!! I have felt like I am walking on a cloud since then!! We sent messages to our family and friends to let them all know our baby is healthy and a girl!! Everybody is very excited!!! Only 20 weeks until we meet our little princess! We went straight to the shops and bought our baby girl her first pink outfit!!!! I could get lost in all the pink newborn clothes!! I can't wait to start planning her nursery and buying the cutest girls clothes!!

Well that is all for now.. I will post again on the weekend for the Week 20 update!

Love from Us (all 3 of us) xoxo

Old wives tales... Gender Prediction!!!

I saw this on another blog the other day and thought it was quite cool to see whether the old wives tales people use to predict the gender are accurate or not.....

Old Wives Tale #1: Heart Rate
If the baby’s heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl. If it is under 140 bpm, then it will be a boy. First time we heard the babies heartbeat it was at 149bpm and then the second time it was in the 150's
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #2: Shape of Belly
If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl. If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy. I think it is a bit early to judge this one although I feel like the baby is always sitting really low in my pelvis and its pretty small at the moment.
Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #3: Ring Test
Using a string, hang your wedding ring over your pregnant belly. You are having a girl if the ring swings back and forth and it’s a boy if it swings in a circle. Back and forth.
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #4: Acne
If you have acne while pregnant, it’s a girl. It’s thought that acne during pregnancy is caused by the extra hormones. No acne for me thankfully!
Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #5: Cravings
People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy. If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl. I have definately been craving fruit and chocolate milk
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #6: Skin under Left Eye
The eye test is when a “V” or “branches” appear when you pull down the skin under your left eye. If you see a “V” or “branches” in the white part, you’re having a girl. I asked Nick for his opinion om this one and after a few funny looks from him he decided I have a “V”.
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #7: Legs
If your legs get really big, you’re having a boy. If your legs stay in shape and lean, it’s a girl. I think it’s too early for me to tell on this one although all my pants still fit properly around the legs... the fact I haven't been running for a few months isn't helping the cause too. So as far as I know I'm only gaining in the torso, legs seem to be the same
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #8: Moodiness
If you are really moody, you are having a girl since you have another extra girl hormones in you apparently. Well I haven't been too moody.. just very happy overall.
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #9: Urine
What color is your pee? If it is bright yellow, you will have a little boy. If your urine is a dull yellow, plan on a girl.
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #10: Chinese Gender Chart
The Chinese Gender Chart claims to have an accuracy rate of over 90%. It is based on how old the mother is at conception and the month that she conceived.
Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #11: Mom’s Beauty
Basically you are having a girl then your beauty disappears during pregnancy. It is said that the girl “steals” the mother’s beauty. If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, a little boy it is. Well I have definitely felt more attractive and more comfortable in my skin.
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #12: Dream of Sex of Baby
If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl. If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy. Dreams show the opposite of what you are having. Well i have only had the one newborn dream and it was a boy in my dream
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #13: Clumsy vs. Graceful
If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she’s having a girl. If she becomes clumsy, she’s having a boy. I wouldn't say I am graceful.. But I have not become clumsy.
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #14: Side You Most Rest On
If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy. If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl. I have always preferred sleeping on my left side and this hasnt changed.
Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #15: Dad’s Weight Gain
If the dad-to-be gains weight while you are pregnant, it’s a girl. If he doesn’t gain weight, you’re having a boy. Nick hasn't gained weight but then again I think he could eat whatever he wanted whenever he wanted and never gain a kilo.
Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #16: Breast Test
If a pregnant woman’s left breast is larger than the right breast, she’s having a girl. If the right breast is larger, it’s a boy. This has swapped over the past 20 weeks so I don't think I can say accurately. Prediction outcome: INCONCLUSIVE

Old Wives Tale #17: What Do You Think?
71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having. I have thought girl from before we got the positive on the test... I have a 50% chance!!
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #18: Morning Sickness
If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it’s a boy. If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl. SICK!!!!!!!! GROSS!!!!!!! SICK!!!!
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #19: Areolae
If your areolae (the part around your nips) have darkened, it’s a boy. If they haven't, its a girl. Well according to everything I have read this should happen to every pregnant woman....
Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #20: Protein
When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy. I have been off chicken and have random cravings for red meat.
Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #21: Feet
Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant? If so, you just might be having a boy. If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you’re having a little girl. Well they are freezing right now and are usually cold... But no colder than usual!
Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #22: Headaches
If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy. YES!!!! Headaches like stabbing knives through my head!
Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #23: Baby Names
It is said that when you can only think of specific names for a boy or a girl, you will have that particularly baby. Well we can only decide on a girls name and have no idea about a boys name yet.
Prediction outcome: GIRL

So... Out of 23 predictions I got 14 GIRL 8 BOY and 1 INCONCLUSIVE.... So we will find out on Wednesday if the Old Wives Tales are right!!!

Week 19

Not an overly eventful week this week... Bending over at work is becoming tricky with the bump being so hard below my belly button and I have had a week long headache which water and rest doesn't seem to help!

As I suspected my bump is slightly smaller this week because we actually took it BEFORE breakfast rather than at the end of the day!

What is the baby up to this week? The sensory development is exploding and his or her brain is creating areas for touch, smell, vision and hearing (and may be able to hear our voice already!!). His or her arms and legs are in their right proportions with the rest of the body and the hair on his or her head is sprouting and the vernix is forming!

Maternity clothes? Just the two pairs of jeans at the moment and they are amazing! Actually had a girl at uni comment that she liked me jeans... We both had a good laugh when I pulled my top up to show her the massive waistband I had rolled down!

Stretch marks? Nope!

Sleep: Still very tired and no matted he much I sleep in I just seem to be exhausted by 3pm in the arvo. The last few nights I have had tingly hands that wake me up and the pins and needles take ages to get rid of!

Best moment this week: We saw my belly move! One afternoon while we were laying there with Nick feeling the kicks I thought they were so strong we could see them... 2 seconds later and POP up jumped my belly! I love when I can 'feel' where Baby T is by the super hard pointy bulge on the left or right!

Miss Anything? Soft cheese! We went to a farmers market today and they had the yummiest looking Brie and Camembert there but I couldn't taste it :-(

Movement: YES!!!!!!!! So much! It is a constant reminder that he or she is in there! I love that I will be sitting in a lecture or standing at work and I get a couple of big kicks... It's like me and Baby T have our own secret club at the moment!

Food cravings: Nothing really
! I am loving apples though they seems to give me heartburn!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing this week

Have you started to show yet: Not really which is okay for now because I haven't told anyone besides the bosses at work !

Gender prediction: Still girl!

Labor Signs: No!

Belly Button in or out? In

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!

Looking forward to: WEDNESDAY!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see our little bub again!!! And to be able to start saying him or her and he or she in the blog and in conversation! And to go shopping!!!! And to start the nursery!!!! We have had a definately girl name picked out from the very beginning so it will be nice to KNOW it is that name OR if it is a boy we will have to start finding names we agree on!! We have the middle name set.. Just the first name to go!

Well that is all for this week!

Love from us (all 3 of us) xxoo

Week 18

Exhaustion! But this week it finally feels 'real' ... I can feel Baby T everyday and bending over at work is becoming increasingly more uncomfortable with the hard bump below my belly button. We have chosen our cot and change table (We spent ages just staring at the different wood colours and I changed my mind every two minutes.. but finally settled on the lighter wood colour! We have picked out our pram and car seat too! We are going to start painting the nursery when we get back from the wedding/christening next month so we can go and buy everything for the nursery! Can't wait!!!!

Now onto this weeks bump.... This picture makes me look bigger then I am because we usually take the photo on Saturday morning before I have eaten and had a chance to bloat... But this was taken Saturday night before we got ready to go out for dinner.

What is the baby up to this week? His or her blood vessels are visible through the paper thin skin, and Baby T's ears are now in their final position, although they're still standing out from his or her head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves. If we are having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If we are having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now and will hopefully give us a little peek at the ultrasound!

Maternity clothes? yes! We went to Harbourtown outlets on the weekend and Pumpkin Patch had maternity jeans down from $90 to $15 so I got 2 pairs which are so so comfy and will get me through uni and the next couple of months before it gets too warm! So bump photos from now on will have maternity jeans!

Stretch marks? Nope!

Sleep: Not enough it seems! The 4:30am wake ups are getting hard and I am absolutely exhausted by 2pm but hold off on napping because I won't be able to sleep at night... So I generally spend the afternoons in a daze where it takes all my effort to keep my eyes open!

Best moment this week: Nick felt Baby T!! A few times now! I can't believe how strong the little kicks or head butts are already for Nick to be feeling it! It was amazing!

Miss Anything? Wearing pants comfortably ha ha!

Movement: YES!!!!!!!! And it is amazing! I love the little reminders that there is a little human growing inside my belly!

Food cravings: Nothing really this week. I can't seem to get enough water though! I have been drinking 3L or so a day and I am still so thirsty!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Night time! Although I think it is more the exhaustion at dinner time that makes it hard to stomach food.

Have you started to show yet: Nick and I can see it.. But not to others yet. If I was to wear a tight shirt you may be able to see it.. But at the moment it still looks like a 'big lunch' belly!

Gender prediction: Still girl!

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? In

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!

Looking forward to: Next Wednesday for our big scan! I am nervous too... Just want to be assured there is a healthy baby in there and I can stop worrying (maybe I should stop reading so much information!)!! And we hopefully get to see if we have a little boy or a little girl!! And then we are going to put it on Facebook!

Well that is all for this week!

Love from us (all 3 of us) xxoo

Week 17

Feeling like a fat blob this week! It is such a strange concept that I eat healthily (with the more than occasional treat) and am still active at work... But I just get bigger and my clothes just get tighter and more uncomfortable! We went out on date night on Friday to a Mexican restaurant and it took me aaaaaaages to find something that didn't cut into my belly! Also.... I can swear I am getting a hairy belly! It is gross! Every time I look down at my belly the tiny little hairs that I never notice seem to be darker and longer and thicker! Hopefully it's just the hormones and it will fade after birth!

Bump photo... Compared to Week 7 it is BIG... But still not anything worthy of being called a 'bump'!!

What is the baby up to this week? Baby T's skeleton is changing to hard bone and the sweat glands are starting to develop! The umbilical cord is growing stronger and thicker and he or she weighs about as much as a turnip (140g!!)
Maternity clothes? I have had to wear a belly band over my jeans to uni this week which has been a life saver. I can finally bend without feeling like I'm being cut in half!

Stretch marks? Nope! :-)

Sleep: We bought a maternity support and feeding pillow this week which is great! Feels supportive in my back and I'm less likely to roll onto my back! Also makes my belly feel less likes its drooping to the side when I lay down.

Best moment this week: Feeling Baby T move a little more! I was in my uni lecture on Thursday when all of a sudden 'KICK' straight into my belly! I couldn't help but smile!

Miss Anything? Running still! My uterus feels very stretchy and whenever I take a step I feel like its pulling down my hips so running is definately it of the question! Can't wait to run on my treadmill again.

Movement: YES!!!!!!!! It feels so amazing! I can't wait until Nick can feel it from the outside!

Food cravings: Mexican food which was satisfied on our date night! And fruit and greek yoghurt smoothies which Nick has been making me in my new bullet machine!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing this week!

Have you started to show yet: This week I have popped I think... Every time I walk in the door to home after work Nick looks at my expanding belly and says "Hellooooo pregnant lady!!" So he has finally noticed the bump too!

Gender prediction: I had a dream that we had a girl! And she was a little blondey!

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? In

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!

Looking forward to: Nick being able to feel Baby T!

Well that is all for this week!

Love from us (all 3 of us) xxoo

Week 16

Feeling very energetic this week!!! Finally! Now that we are home and settled after the wedding and honeymoon we have started to look for the BIG things we need for Baby T... Cot, change table, pram and car seat. Still not sure whether we will get a capsule or just one of the convertible car seats that go from birth to 4 years. The pram we like has an option for a detachable capsule so if we decide need one it will be easy to buy and connect in. A couple of the big baby stores on Adelaide are having big clearance and sales so we are going to lay buy our big things this week hopefully! And as of today a BIG exciting moment happened ... But you can read about that down further!

Now onto the belly bump photo... I'm getting there! It's like I'm too big for my normal pants but when I went to try on maternity pants they were too big! So I am wearing my baggier jeans until I if in stretchy pants!

What is the baby up to this week? Baby T is now about 12cm long and weighs about 100g and will have discovered the umbilical cord this week which he or she will grab on and pull. The lungs are fully working and he or she is inhaling and exhaling the fluid! Whatever the baby is doing in there I can feel my belly stretching on each side- especially when I twist or roll over in bed!

Maternity clothes? Not yet but I had to wear and elastic band around my skinny jeans the other day and when I sit down I have to unbutton or else it is waaaaay too tight!

Stretch marks? Nope! :-)

Sleep: This week I have really began to notice my belly bulge at the bottom and it feels like its falling to the side when I'm trying to sleep... And I get up about 5 times a night to wee!

Best moment this week: I FELT BABY T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And we had the maternity ward tour at the hospital this week. It was great to see where I will go when I'm in labour and then where I will give birth if I don't need an epidural or C-Section.. The big water birth baths are just what I had imagined! And then we looked through the main ward where I go if I want an epidural or have a high risk pregnancy (which so far I don't!). For some reason I expected to see heavily pregnant woman pacing the hallways moaning and groaning and hearing screams coming from the closed rooms... But it was so quiet and peaceful!

Miss Anything? Runny eggs this week!

Movement: YES!!!!!!!! It was at work today! And it was amazing! I was in the work freezer bending down to get scones when I felt a little tickle in my belly.... It made me stop what I was doing and then I thought maybe it was just my belly digesting... But it happened again about 3 minutes later. It felt like tickly bubbles and took my breath away! It was beautiful and so exciting!

Food cravings: Mexican food but mainly the guacamole with it!!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing this week! Yay!

Have you started to show yet: Definately! Although most people still couldn't pick it!

Gender prediction: Girl... Boy.... Girl.... Only 3 weeks until we find out!

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? In

c Happy or Moody most of the time: Unbelievably happy!

Looking forward to: feeling Baby T again! And our big scan in August 28th!

Well that is all for this week!

Love from us (all 3 of us) xxoo
